Update on Doc Holliday Sculptures- December 2017

Good news! The Doc Holliday sculpture will be available in a 12″ size in bronze and an 8″ size in a mixed media with bronze colored finish. Each sculpture will also be on a base that will at an inch or two. The 12″ sculpture will be on a similar base a pictured on our previous postings. Projected retail for these sizes are projected to be around $3,000.00 and $600.00, respectively. The smaller sizes will also be limited editions, although the numbers have not been finalized. “Doc” Holliday sculpture exclusively at Arlene’s

We are excited to announce the we are going to be the exclusive retailer to offer a one-half life-size bronze of John “Doc” Holliday! The name of the sculpture is “I’m your huckleberry..” This bronze is created by internationally collected and nationally acclaimed artist Larry Gay. Some of Larry’s other works can be found in the permanent collection of the Charlie Russell Museum in Great Falls, Montana.

This sculpture was based upon the iconic “Tombstone” movie from 1993. As you may remember, Val Kilmer played “Doc” Holliday in the movie. This captures the essence of the look of the character from the movie.

“I’m your huckleberry…” is limited to an edition of 17. It is available in the patina you see pictured in the post, as well as in a colored patina. The colored picture is available upon request if you are interested in a purchase. There are 16 pieces remaining in the edition, and the edition will include both patina choices to make up the total of seventeen. We currently have #1 in the store, and is the one pictured.

The retail price on this is $15,800. It is approximately 38″ tall and the base is about 14″ wide. The base is mesquite wood, inlaid turquoise, and faux silver. Approximated weight is 50-55 pounds. You can pick the number you would like, other than #2. If you choose to order one that we do not have in the store, the piece takes 10 weeks to create, and then will be shipped directly to you.

New Event for Tombstone coming up!

Hello all! A new event is coming up for Tombstone in a couple of weeks. It is called Doc Holli-days and will go from August 11-13. Val Kilmer is scheduled to appear at various functions, most of which have a cost. There will be other entertainment, so we hope it will be a good time. Arlene’s first TV “commercial” ever!

Rare Legends Sculptures from Chris Pardell!

We have been very fortunate to come across five of the Legendary West Premiere Edition sculptures, from Legends, by Christopher Pardell. These are made by Legends, known today as Starlite Originals. The pieces are the mixed media collectors items that made this company very famous in the 1980s and 1990s. Mixed media includes bronze, pewter, gold (small amounts), brass, and other metals. Legends was one of the first companies to add color to their mixed media items to bring them to life. The color is not paint, but comes from chemical reactions! All items were made in the U.S.A.

Christopher Pardell is well known for his depictions of Native American images and people.

“Triumphant” and “Red Cloud’s Coup” are pictured, but we have three others as well. Three of these five are signed by Chris. The signed pieces are “Triumphant”, “Red Cloud’s Coup”, and “Final Charge”. We also have “Pursued” and “Songs of Glory”.

All 5 of these items sold out immediately when released in 1988-1992.

These items came from a store that closed years ago, and the owner of the store no longer wanted them. We do not purchase previously sold pieces from collectors.

Zuni Fetishes- new selection!

Over the past couple of years, more Zuni artisans have gone to fetish carvings instead of jewelry. Some of this is due to increased cost of silver and other raw materials. We have seen some very different stones and animals over the years. As you see in the picture, two of our new additions are interested in the same fish! Don’t know if the otter will out swim the bear! Yesterday, we replenished our fetish selection, so now is the time to improve your collection! New Navajo baskets!

It seems that there are less Navajo and Hopi artisans making nice baskets these days. Therefore, we do not stock as many as we once did. However, we are fortunate to have found two very unique and colorful baskets. These designs are my favorite to come across as they are so different than what you normally see.
