This Oaxacan Roadrunner Wood Carving by Julia Calvo Olivera is hand-carved from copal wood and painted with acrylics. Its long beak, swept-back crest, and narrow body give the roadrunner a low, streamlined shape, while the surface is divided into bands of spirals, diamonds, linework, and other geometric patterns. Brightly painted feathers and raised accents break through those patterned sections, carrying the decoration from the crest down the length of the bird.
