This Navajo-made kachina doll by M. C. depicts a Hemis-style figure in a lively dancing pose, with one leg raised and both arms extended forward. The brilliant blue feathered headdress is the first thing you notice, framing the carved mask and giving the piece dramatic height and volume. White feather bands across the face and chest break up the saturated blue, while painted details in red, yellow, and turquoise add small bursts of color throughout. Hemis kachinas are often associated with celebration, dance, and seasonal ceremony.
