This Oaxacan Coyote Wood Carving by Julia Calvo Olivera is hand-carved from copal wood and painted with acrylics. The coyote’s arched body, lifted muzzle, and dramatically curled tail give the carving an animated, almost calling posture, with separate bands of geometric linework following the curves of its body. Rows of painted dots sweep along the detachable tail, while the oversized eye, pointed ears, and layered muzzle give the face its own dense mix of pattern and detail.
