This Oaxacan Cat Wood Carving features a long, reclining form with its front legs stretched forward and its detachable tail curling high behind the body. Painted sections of turquoise, blue, red, and purple divide the cat into a patchwork of scallops, checkerboard shapes, stripes, and curved linework, while its oversized eyes, pointed ears, and small pink muzzle give the face an especially playful expression. The patterns shift noticeably from one section of the carving to the next, giving the low, elongated silhouette plenty to look at without losing the shape of the cat.
