This sand painting is by a Navajo artist by the name of Deborah Foster.  Sand painting is a part of the Navajo religion, they're used to restore balance and harmony after a disaster occurs, normally an illness. This means performing one of many chants, or ways, one being sand painting. On the back, there is a Certificate of Authenticity, including the artist's photo and information on the Navajo religion.
